Don’t know a ton about this dude.  I have heard a couple tracks and usually he is spitting really fast, with a definite Bone Thug influence.  On this track he slows it down and gets introspective, to great results.  Has definitely put him on my radar.

I love this video.  First off, Phonte can straight rap.  I haven’t loved a lot of his music because I never got into Little Brother, but I did love his first Foreign Connection album.  This video is great, a lot of people wonder about “grown man” rap.  Can it exist?  This video shows it can IMO – Phonte isn’t bragging about wealth, he isn’t reliving a wild youth – he is talking grown up issues, that the everday man faces.   Take a look to see what I mean.

This is a song form last year, but the video is relatively new.  I think the video does the track justice, the over the top drums pair perfectly with the live performance clips.   You get a “epic” feel from the song, and the video captures that perfectly.

First off – LOL @ Avon Blocksdale.  The Wire is the greatest show in TV history, but I dunno about that handle.  Good news is – the track he is on is FIRE.  Great track really showcasing the future of New York.  A nice throwback beat that goes HARD.  Welcome back New York!  My fav verses off here are Exquire and Troy Ave’s.

I was worried when I heard Killer Mike was doing an album with EL-P.  I know EL-P has his fans but for me – never really felt the guy.  He has had some nice beats, but a lot of his production just has too much going on. This beat comes close, but I think he successfully pulls it off.  This beat goes hard!  Killer Mike is great as usual, a nice verse from Bun and Tip kills it as well.  Great to see some of my favorite southern artists on a track together.

Can’t believe I am putting a Riff Raff video on my site.  I had to though because the song is so dope. I have been a big Action Bronson fan but was worried when I saw he was working with Riff Raff.  I shouldn’t have worried.  Bronson sounds great, the beat is awesome (loving the horns) and Riff Raff doesn’t ruin the song.  In fact, he has a short verse that is actually pretty good.

Loving this track right now!  This is def one of my favs of the year so far.  Rittz is a white rapper who put out a pretty decent mixtape last year: White Jesus.  He has a rapid fire flow, and it fits in nicely over laid back beats like this.  Dj Burn One provides the backdrop and he is the current king of laid back southern production. Nikkiya, who is a very interesting up and coming RnB artist provides some great vocals for the hook.  She seems like someone to keep an eye on.
