I love this video. First off, Phonte can straight rap. I haven’t loved a lot of his music because I never got into Little Brother, but I did love his first Foreign Connection album. This video is great, a lot of people wonder about “grown man” rap. Can it exist? This video shows it can [...]
Jay-Z & Kanye West – Niggas in Paris
This is a song form last year, but the video is relatively new. I think the video does the track justice, the over the top drums pair perfectly with the live performance clips. You get a “epic” feel from the song, and the video captures that perfectly.
Riff Raff & Action Bronson – Bird On A Wire
Can’t believe I am putting a Riff Raff video on my site. I had to though because the song is so dope. I have been a big Action Bronson fan but was worried when I saw he was working with Riff Raff. I shouldn’t have worried. Bronson sounds great, the beat is awesome (loving the [...]
G-Side feat. Stalley & Joi Tiffany – Gettin’ It
Yep G-Side AND Stalley. This is actually a track from G-Side’s album Island (from last year). The video is recent though and while not a masterpiece – it is a vast improvement on a lot of G-Side videos. That fact, plus the great song and the combination of G-Side and Stalley make this one of [...]
Ski Beatz feat. Currensy – Fly By
Ski Beatz is about to drop his full length album (Feb 14) and it should be a monster. He creates some great beats, and always seems to hook up with decent rappers. This video is no exception as it gives us a little behind the scenes look at Currensy and Ski Beatz creating this laid [...]
ScHoolboy Q – Nightmare On Figg St. [VIDEO]
It is funny what a cool video can do. On Schoolboy Q’s recent album (which was fire) I never even counted this as a stand out track, but the video helps remind you how HARD it is. Great use of “video chick” as well.
Gangrene – Vodka & Ayahuasca
Gangrene is a “super” group between producers Oh No and Alchemist. You can imagine with that production lineup the music is dark, hard beats, grimey, etc… Well you are right. While neither man is what I would term a great rapper, they do create interesting music. The video matchs the music. Even if you don’t [...]
ASAP Rocky – Wassup [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
ASAP Rocky, one of my fav new artists from last year, drops a video for his hypnotizing song off of LiveLoveA$AP – Wassup. The video is reportedly inspired by the movies Scarface, Belly, Enter The Dragon, The Warriors and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.
Freddie Gibbs [prod. Madlib] – Thuggin [VIDEO]
Freddie Gibbs isn’t out there spitting inspirational raps. He raps about robbing people and he does it at a ridiculous high level (rapping, not robbing that is). This video is simple but effective. Gibbs could start a whole “home robbery” sub genre of rap if he keeps spitting at this level.
