I like just about every kind of rap music out there., I don’t get stuck in underground vs. mainstream debates, or New York vs Houston etc… If the song sounds good – I like it. Enter Doughbeezy and Killa Kyleon – two Houston rappers who drop an unapologetic fuck you, to their haters.
Don’t know a ton about this dude. I have heard a couple tracks and usually he is spitting really fast, with a definite Bone Thug influence. On this track he slows it down and gets introspective, to great results. Has definitely put him on my radar.
First off – LOL @ Avon Blocksdale. The Wire is the greatest show in TV history, but I dunno about that handle. Good news is – the track he is on is FIRE. Great track really showcasing the future of New York. A nice throwback beat that goes HARD. Welcome back New York! My fav […]
I was worried when I heard Killer Mike was doing an album with EL-P. I know EL-P has his fans but for me – never really felt the guy. He has had some nice beats, but a lot of his production just has too much going on. This beat comes close, but I think he […]
Loving this track right now! This is def one of my favs of the year so far. Rittz is a white rapper who put out a pretty decent mixtape last year: White Jesus. He has a rapid fire flow, and it fits in nicely over laid back beats like this. Dj Burn One provides the […]
A really smooth track – what else do you expect from Spitta? No lyrical miracles on this song, just a laid back track on The Firm’s fAfirmative Action beat. I actually prefer this beat, seems a bit less robotic than The Firm version. Of course no one kills this track nearly as well as Nas […]
Maffew Ragazino is another up and comer from New York that is making some noise. He is putting out some interesting music. This latest track features the Hipster certified Das Racist. I don’t get caught up in that Hipster tag, while they have odd flows, they really can spit. Another great track from New York!
I don’t know a lot about Ab Soul except that he is part of the “Black Hippy” scene out of the west coast. What I do know, is that this song is fire and it has me interested in seeing what else Ab Soul releases. He has a good flow, and some genuinely funny bars.
Straight out of New Orleans comes LG, don’t expect a Lil Wayne clone though, LG would rather be Nas. This track from his latest effort Synth Sounds was one of my fav trackss on a very solid album.
Action Bronson makes his second appearance on the Best Rap Songs of 2012. Once again he is rhyming over a selection of pop music samples. This time he chooses the classic MotownPhilly and another New Jack Swinish song…that I have seen attributed to Take 6.
